Cluster pt 3. rocksclusters.org

12A_0403Well, I did a google for ‘Debian Clustering’ and I found the link in the previous post to the Debian DCC package.

I downloaded that, and am installing it as we speak. In looking at the search results, I clicked the second link, and got to the beowulf.org site, which had an article about using DCC, which basically said that it was not as well rounded as something called ROCKS.

So, I went and googled for that ‘ROCKS Clustering’ and I found the ROCKS project homepage. I think I’m going to have to try this as my first option, before finish going down the Debian road.

125-2515_IMGThe great thing about Debian is that it was VERY EASY to install on my older hardware, and that after that it looked like a distro that I could meddle with enough to make what I want.

So, I’ve downloaded this rocksclusters installation. It is based upon redhat. All I can say is this: It’s not for the hobbyist. It’s for big cluster installations. it doesn’t even install on systems with small memory, like mine.

I think that distro builders need to hear this: It’s time to work FOR the hoobyist. How else are we supposed to learn, and press the edge of the envelope?

So, I tried rocksclusters, and now its back to Debian, and DCC. DCC is porving to be some trouble too. More later.
