Going to New Orleans to See an Old Work Pal

I love it when I am able to switch companies and stay in loyal vendor relationships with old friends who run services that my (new) employer requires.

I am ESPECIALLY happy when I can bring aboard an old friend to at least bid against a current vendor. Continue reading ‘Going to New Orleans to See an Old Work Pal’

A Trek to Chicago/A Mighty Fine Concert Back Home

It was in the Fall of ‘94 and time for budget reviews in Chicago. I was pretty torn up, so I asked my buddy’s wife if I could scoop up Mike so he could drive and hang with me–my boss didn’t have any problem with it, since my collegues brought along their wives, anyway. There’d be plenty for him to do while I was working for the couple of days we’d be up there. Continue reading ‘A Trek to Chicago/A Mighty Fine Concert Back Home’

Bleeding on Paper

Journaling, say gazillions of therapists all over the World, eradicates suffering.   Whatever.  I’m really cranking it up; I was writing a distant friend who grew weary of it long before I stopped.  Now I stuff Word docs at the rate of forty pages a day into folders and trashcans and take lefteover tidbits here.  If it helps, it’s not entirely evident.  It keeps my fingers moving and invites one of my kitties to sit on one of my keyboards.  From what I can tell, petting any of them helps more than this.

Key to Relationships, Tuning up your Batting Average

Far be it for me to advise anybody on anything regarding this, except perhaps the following:

The single and horrifically large barrier is a lack of ‘brokering’.  Translated, that’s when your friend’s girlfriend or wife has a lady friend who’s also clawiing at the air at the vacuum that is the ‘07 singles (non-bar) scene.  Church doesn’t particularly work, work sure as hell doesn’t work, neighbors keep their doors closed and watch too much TiVo, etc.  Continue reading ‘Key to Relationships, Tuning up your Batting Average’

Yo-Yo MA weighs in: Vilvaldi

I fully admit that I’m now old enough to bristle a bit when an artist or conductor takes so much as a small liberty with a work. Yo-Yo works some brain-crushingly difficult Vivaldi works here (album: ‘Vilvaldi’s Cello - Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra” 2004) and the listener would never know. Somebody did a HELL of a job of teaching this young man his trade–he’s obviously as learned as he is adept. Continue reading ‘Yo-Yo MA weighs in: Vilvaldi’

The Toadies

Upon listening to less than three bars of this band’s music, the listener instantly learns that this stuff ain’t no “Toad the Wet Sprocket”. That band outsold the Toadies’ entire touring and record sales in less than a day or so. Continue reading ‘The Toadies’

Lunch is Lunch

Lunch is lunch, amourous passions are a hell of a lot different.

A lunch ‘date’ opens the door for a friendship; sleeping with a lady soon (eventually) slams the door shut. Continue reading ‘Lunch is Lunch’
