W. A. Mozart Weighs In — Requiem in D Minor (1789)

Pic031Mozart wrote this masterpiece, a five-vocal rotation in front of a full orchestra hastily. That he pulled it off while simultaneously writing the crowning moments of his best opera ‘The Magic Flute’, and understandably under a smidgen of duress, speaks loudly for his composing talent. G’Bye, Mr. Barlows (1916-2007)

Pic028Alex and his Navy buddy were on a westbound ship bound for home in ‘47 or so after WWII.  They conjured up the idea of a temporary agency firm to give the hundreds of thousands of not-yet-back-on-their-feet sailors (and soldiers and Marines) jobs.

Nobody had ever thought of such a company. Continue reading ‘G’Bye, Mr. Barlows (1916-2007)’

The Internet and Text

St_ Pat_s2007094.JPGLeo Laporte twittered that ‘Text is so tiny - what an efficient medium’.
You know, the internet still has throwbacks to the 7bit ASCII days. the FTP protocol only support UTF-8 as of 2002, and who knows how many servers actually implement that?

I did some research and found the above link. it’s been awhile since i asked this question, the last time was about 15 years ago, when I asked the Network Administrator Continue reading ‘The Internet and Text’

Gabby Loves Nathaniel…..

IMGP0579.JPG…Nathaniel loves her right back, and I love them both.

Nathaniel, my first son, reported to the United States Army Basic Training this afternoon at Fort Jackson, SC.   He’s probably getting poked and prodded in the delightful Army physical that all fine soldiers endure with nary a nod or a wink. Continue reading ‘Gabby Loves Nathaniel…..’

Another Twitter app…

I have my own idea for a twitter.com app, but for now, I’ve been surfing around, looking at what others have done to see how close they have come to mine - it may have already been done, you never know…

Anyway, i found this: http://theflashblog.com/twitter.html

I think its cool.

update
Actually, it does suck. once you reach the end of the pile of twitters, it doesn’t update with new ones from twitter.

That’s got to get fixed.

Bob Dylan Weighs In –’Oh Mercy’ (1989)

Pic009This is the one, folks. To put this statement into perspective, allow me, unbragging-ly, to share from whence/where I come, Dylan’s music-wise. Continue reading ‘Bob Dylan Weighs In –’Oh Mercy’ (1989)’

The words for today

From the mouths of babes…

Lyish - Not a white lie, but not truth either. This is as close to ‘Truthiness’ as i think I’ve ever heard.
Candyish - being in a state of wanting or needing candy.

both of these come from a co-workers children, aged 6 and 11…

AttentionTrust.org

AttentionTrust.org Has anyone else seen this, and thought about it?
If implemented, and really used, could shift the economics of surfing…

Hmmmm - Interesting.

Brian Eno Weighs In: ‘Another Day on Earth’ (’05)

Pic044It’s safe to say that this now sixty-ish gentleman has a bit of a reputation for being ‘out there’. In his younger days, younger than I am now, this British gentleman quite literally invented the electronic effects that are to today’s music by all artists and genres, up to and including Country, as weird as this latter mention sounds. Continue reading ‘Brian Eno Weighs In: ‘Another Day on Earth’ (’05)’

J.J. Cale Weighs In - ‘Naturally’ (1973)

IMGP0365.JPGYou wouldn’t know him if you, quite literally, fell over him or if he crashed your nephew’s wedding. You would have no idea what you were holding if you picked up the album cover of this record that features a standing racoon in shades, either. The artist’s name in fancy-schmancy script, found on the lower left hand corner, is a bit hard to make out.  It’s his name, though. Continue reading ‘J.J. Cale Weighs In - ‘Naturally’ (1973)’
