My Son Joins the Army, 1-10-07

Today was a rather meaningful day for my first son Nathaniel Baker, his brother Dylan, his sister Bianca, and his mother, Jeanitta luz’-Marie (maiden name).

Nathaniel reports to Basic Training 3-8-07 in West Oklahoma a-ways, then ships to one (of two Army) signal/communications/IT school out in one (of two) Carolinas, then off to the wild blue.  He’ll learn rudimentary ‘Sat Com’ stuff and won’t have to do the calculus that his daddy had to crank out on dumb-ass notepaper in college…

…and he reports as a ‘Fire Support Specialist–13 FOX’, and go, well, off to the wild (yellow/red) yonder…

…to ‘Ja Hinterland’, as all brave new Private (1st Class-he’s got college credits under his black n’ shiny belt) NEW soldiers go for their first year-and-a-half or so.

He’ll be stationed, while in Germany (at/in a Frankfort suburb at a GIGANTIC Army base.   Then, as his contract guarantees, he’s…

…off to the (fiery hot, or warm, or lukewarm, or chilly, or BONE chilly) desert/deserted cradle of Earth’s homo erectus-then-sapien beings, to serve and protect the U.S. beings, be they grateful, understanding, wise, or none of the above.

Of course, folks, they/we will.  I will, for Nathaniel anyway, and will, for ALL of us.

You GO, Nathaniel!!!  I love you!
