wireless crap

Being a security conscious geek that I am, I configgered my wireless with a shared key and made sure everybody had the key and the data was encrypted and all that happy hoo-haa.
I found that performance was absolutely shitty. Connections would drop for no apparent reason, clients could’nt reconnect, etc. I was gonna run wires all over the place when I turned all the security off.
BINGO!
I did at the very least enable MAC address filtering.
So much for listening to the experts…

SBC Yahoo password screw up?

I have my broadband connection through the SBC Yahoo co-branded DSL service. Speed is OK, price is OK, and I am generally happy with the service, except for one thing.
Your Yahoo! username/password, the one you use to login to MyYahoo and Yahoo mail, is also the username/password for your DSL modem. If you change your mail password, and don’t change the password in your DSL modem setup, you are basically hosed. This crucial tidbit isn’t mentioned anywhere that I can find in any of the documentation that I recieved. The only way that I found out is by attempting to change my password, and getting knocked offline. Even when I spoke with a very nice woman in India for and hour and a half, I still could not get online. The only way that I fixed it was by changing my password back to what is setup in the modem.
Who thought this through? Why isn’t this mentioned anywhere?
