A VISITOR’S GUIDE TO DRIVING IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI:

The following was sent to me by my friend Sunny.

The morning rush hour is from 6:00 to 10:00 am. The evening rush hour is
from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.

Friday’s rush hour starts Thursday morning.

Gravois Road can only be pronounced by a native.

Construction on highway 40, 70, 270, 44, 55 and I-170 is a way of life, and
a permanent form of entertainment.

A St. Louisan from South County has never been to North County and visa
versa.

West County has everything delivered.

Memorial Day Whee!

I’m doing some psychedelic visuals for Schwagstock, at the base of Bagnell Dam in the Lake of the Ozarks.
Got my rackmount ‘puter, video mixer, DVD player and VCR, lots of really trippy footage, a huge screen, video projector, and a teeming crowd of about 3 to 4 thousand people…
This ought to be fun.

nifty Geekforce icon

I finally figgered out how to get a little icon to show up in the location bar.
I hope it shows up for you too.

Almost all better…

Well,

I am at work for the first time in while, where I am actually conscious of what I am doing. It’s pretty great, and kind of weird too. My teeth still hurt a little bit, but otherwise, I’m OK.

Alot of other things have cleared up as well. My sinuses are better.

Later.

Where the convergence is now…

Blogging is popular these days. So popular in fact that even lame ass TechTV has a little blog spot that they do during the screensavers.

There is also a tremendous amount of resources being poured into making it easier to do, and integration tighter. This site runs on MovableType - you knew that already… But thanks to the hard work of people like Ben and Mena, the blog world gets better all the time.

Mac Users

Back in the day, the mac users that I remember were friendly, very smart, and savvy about their machines. But they also shared a philosophy.

It was a philosophy of experimentation. They were always trying new things, never assuming that something worked better one way than another.

The other important thing that Mac users had was a will to learn. The will to learn how to think about a problem within the confines of the problem, while understanding that their computer could lend them a hand from other departments when necessary.
“my clock is set to Dec. 1969″ - “Well, what sets my clock?”

It was a cool user community.

NOT ANY MORE

These days, Mac users are simple, lazy folks who dont even want to click on a new menu item ‘Lets see what the one does…’ to learn new things.

It pisses me off!

The Mac is now UNIX, with the release of OS X. And boy, mac users are the worst. I know. I am one.

The first to point the finger, the last to try to understand why. I’ve had to work with your heterogeneous systems. So, I get how stuff works differently from system to system.

I also experiment alot. pressing different buttons. playing with the interactions between functions.

Mac users used to do the same sort of stuff.

But I dont understand why you’d post a question about a software API Technical Note from Apple, and ask how to use it when USING some piece of software. The API, and the presentation are completely separate!!!

Then there’s all the ‘This software broke my computer’ posts.

If something breaks your system, the first thing you need to do is understand WHAT YOU DID, and why that might have caused a problem.

Mac users dont do this anymore. It’s like they cant get from point A to point B. They’ll tell you they can get from point D to point F using a shortcut they found once, but that’s as far as it goes.

Mac users, get back to basics. READ SOMETHING for once! for chrissake!

Y’all are a bunch of idiots.
Thank you.

Tooth saga continues

So, I have all this swelling in my mouth.
I went back to the oral surgeon today, and now I have an infection, my cheeks are all swollen. I have puss running onto my mouth. It’s gross. I’m nauseous.
I’m depressed. I’m tired.
I just cant wait till this is over, because I’m gonna eat like a fuckin’ king!
I have not eaten solid food for 4 days.

I know, this post is gross, ignore it if you want…

Wisdom teeth — pain.

So, yeah I got my wisdom teeth out on Thursday. I thought everything was going well. My mouth is swollen shut! I have to eat pudding… For the last three days, that was my diet - pudding, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes.

Man, it would be fine if it weren’t for the pain.

Illustrated index of plane crashes

I found this little gem of a site today, wonderful collection of plane crashes, with before and after pictures.
Accidents are sorted by date, type of plane, chronologically, by country, and by cause of disaster. They even have .WAV and .MP3 files from the cockpit voice recorders.
Well worth the surf, if only to find out what a Ilyushin 76 looks like.

Back from the Sprawl

I spent a few days in the NYC area this week. It’s been a few years since I have been to The Big Apple, it seems cleaner and a little friendlier than the last time I was there. I was enjoying just being a part of the crowds on the street, I haven’t heard such a plethora of different languages, well, since the last time I was there.
St. Louis definately needs more Latinas….heh.
