Geekforce Outing

Well,

Ian and I went to Lacede Computer Trading on Saturday. That place is great. For a cluster nodes, or just cheap spare parts, it’s the place to go.

The were selling SGI Indigo workstations for $10.00 - they were barebones - no disks, no cd, etc. but there they were.

I found an old RAID for about $300, armed with a bunch of 9GB drives.

I’m think about something neat these days:

Cluster Progress, Authentication madness

I’ve got node number two up and running in ’shared process space’ mode. I’m frustrated because I can’t get the bproc module to load at boot, and have to run modprobe manually form the client at boot. Bummer.

But, I’ve two more nodes to go here, and some lets just say ‘interesting’ power limitations!

On the photshelf front, many of you may have noticed that it is broken… Yes, the authentication system is all bolluxed up. I’m almost done fixing it tho. I’m thinking two or three weeks.

So this weekend, its getting the boot process cleaned up, and then I think we’ll get lustre installed! And hopefully, while I’m waiting for kernels to build, I can hack on photoshelf some more.

Beo-What?!

I’m insane, and I can’t type - or spell for that matter - but I’ve got a beowulf cluster in my basement.

And you don’t! Neener neener…

I’m losing it…

Taht last post made NO Sense!

Things have been touch and go in life lately.

I’ve got a really cool job wioth great people that I work with, but it just seems like everything does not add up for me.

Bummer.

More later.

Iraqi Dental Issues

Well,

The saga continues. I’ve had to postpone my wisdom teeth for yet the third time. This time because the surgeon I was going to is ‘out of network’ and I think, charging too much for the procedure.

So I went and looked at other surgeons that are in-network. Aaahhh, the joy of pain and software…

I guess things are looking up in Iraq. I think that I’m gonna move over there once the shit stops hitting the fan, start an internet compnay, and see if I can be responsible for creating another bubble.

Hell, can you imagine the tax advantages? - You would have cause yet another econmoic melt down in a burgeoning new economy… The government would probably PAY ME to do it…

Geeks and Graphs

What is it with us geeks anyway?
Dave and I have the same penchant for graphs and charts, as evidenced in the traffic logs, (which we have going back to the beginning of the site, more or less.) My plot of the SARS outbreak (updated daily) is another example. Less a graph than the others is the Geekforce SETI At Home stats.

Maybe it’s frustrated artistic ability, manifested through PERL or, in my case, the “Save As Web Page” option in my spreadsheet program.
