Mannheim Steamroller

So I went and saw Mannheim Steamroller last night.

Let me preface this by sying that it’s the first time that i’ve ever even heard this group. So I did not really know what to expect. I was going in ready to have some fun. Albeit cautiously…

All I have to say is this: What utter DRECK. This guy Chip Davis or whatever his name is needs two things:

1) Talent
2) Some real music

I was so utterly amazed by the complete lack of anything even remotely resembling music that i was shocked. This group has a lot of history, and are well known for their music (if you want to call it that). So, that is why I am a bit taken aback. It amazed me that they were such CRAP.

OK, so what about the music was bad?

First of all the blatant commercialization of it. They used one of their most poopular tunes “Deck The Halls” as a medium to advertise past appearcances on media outlets.

I want to enjoy music, not be shown how many times this PIECE OF SHIT band has appeared on the Tonight Show.

Oooh, this really got me going - MannheimSteamroller sucks! They suck suck suck…

What else was bad?

The band is supposed to be oriented around the “Crescendo” Correct me if I’m wrong, but a crescendo is something that you build up to. Music leads to it, it is not there for itself, or in and of itself. So, more than half the time you’ve got these really loud horn, drum and cymbal crashes, that seem to detract from the music, because they take away from the music, and cause you to focus on the crescendo, and not the music. This led me to think that probably, even though they are very technically competant, the group has no real tlaent at all, just the ability to generate crescendo. Gee, how nice.

The one goood piece was the one where they played completely acoustically, they left there stations, and gathered around some acoustic instruments, and made some real music. This was right before there last piece.

So one piece out of about twelve was even listenable…

Mannheim Steamroller what a crock.

I’m never gong to another concert, and if you find any MannheimSteamroller CD’s in my collection, just shoot me in the back of the head, I need to be put out of my misery.
