More photoshelf work…

I got some more work done on photoshelf.

It’s getting much better. This weekend, I worked on the image upload script. It’s still not done - because it needs to get re-written… But its getting there.

Please bear with me while I get this ironed out and working, and meanwhile, enjoy browsing the galleries.

Some stuff fixed…

I fixed Photoshelf. The database is back up. But I gotta get to the root of the problem, and I have not done that yet…

The other change that I’ve made is to establisha database connection pool for photoshelf. I’m hoping this is going to improve performance again.

Anyway, sick… Tired… I go tthe Back to the Future trilogy for X-Mas, so I think this weekend is a sickie marathon.

Photoshelf down…

Well,

I’m learning my lesson for being subject to database server - when it goes down, you’re SOL. And my postgres server is down - got a bad disk.

So, no photos for now - probably be a few weeks before I can get a new disk…

Merry Christmas…

SPACE PLACE AND ME

“When we finally get around to building our place in this metamorphological techno-dream, we rely too much on what we have seen and where we have been. We become homogenized in big dog manure pile that is the result of the output of the ‘net. Our pages look the same, our sig’s look similar, and our e-mail addresses are alike. We are safe, like a pack of dogs - we feel strength in our union, but un-unique.”

Dave wrote that about 5 years ago.

More SPAM info

Ian’s using some cool software… Here at Daveshouse, we use POPFile (http://popfile.sourceforge.net) to manage spam.

POPFile is a POP3 application proxy that conatins a Bayesian text classification engine, and a web configuration interface. So, it allows me to re-classify any message that I have received.

It’s cool. And it works for multiple people on a lan too.

SPAM for breakfast

What does an enterprising geek like me do on an early Sunday morning?
Kill SPAM.
Estimates of the amount of time and money that are wasted dealing with SPAM are in the $20 per user range. For a small company, that can be a real drain on resources. For a large company, like, say, a multi national bank, it adds up quick.
One of my many email addresses is about 5 years old now, and I also get all of the mail for geekforce.com. That adds up to alot of SPAM. Services like Yahoo! Mail have pretty sophisticated SPAM filters set up, and that is one of the reasons that I have an accnt. with them. It’s also free. (Well, if you ignore the ads, but I digress). Having installed and tested a few personal spam filters, I wanted to share my impressions….

Aw CRAP!

Tonight I got into a small auto accident, nobody got hurt, but my car is pretty messed up. Whacked the bumper off and mushed up the drivers side headlight. I was on my way to the Slashdot meetup. Needless to say, I didn’t make it. Instead I stuffed my front bumper in my back seat and came home, wrapped presents, played Americas Army, and tried not to focus on it. At least I have insurance. It is still a bummer, though. Where am I gonna find another 1990 Honda Civic with less than 150,000 miles on it?

I love the smell of new hardware in the morning

I work with a bunch of geeks! Yeah, that’s right, I got new job.

So, the mantra of the afternoon is how good new hardware SMELLS!

I’m NOT swearing off the House music

It’s a shame that Dave doesn’t come out with me more often, then he wouldn’t get stuck listening to drek. (see the references to Manneheim Steamroller below)
I think that he should have come and seen the Urban Jazz Naturals, for a dose of live house! Check out DJ_Don’s pages while you are at it as well, Don is 1/4 of the band.
