Evening @ Velvet

Tonight, Ben Watt of Everything But The Girl fame spins at Velvet, one of my favorite clubs.

I’m going. Enough said.

Coq au Vin

I made Coq au Vin once before, but I had a crappy recipe, and I didn’t follow all the instructions.

This time, I did it right, had the yummy shallots, and a good merlot to make the sauce. It was really good. I dont have a photo of it…

Coq au Vin is Chicken in a red wine sauce. You brown the chicken in 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil with some shallots for a few minutes, remove the chicken, and put in some vegetables. Saute them for about 5 minutes, and then add some chicken broth and red wine. Put the chicken back in the pot, and bring to a boil, then simmer for about 40 minutes.

Evening @ Pageant

Looking east towards Downtown Clayton.I went to Pageant last night to see the Ticketmaster New Music event.

There were 5 local bands playing and acoustic interludes. We saw The Turnstyles, Earl, and Colony. The Turnstyles, and Earl were the best.

Colony wasn’t too bad, but they were kind of a college boy band. Think N’sync meets Bauhaus, meets The Rolling Stones.

All in all, Pageant is much better than I thought it was going to be. It’s very spacious, and there are lots of tables, and bars to rest your drink on.

The stage is set pretty far back in the space, so there’s room for Dance floor. There is an upstairs, but it was closed last night.

It’s not like I hate crowds, but if you can be in a club like this, and pack it full of people, and still not feel crowded, thats good. And that is what Pageant is like.

What can I tell you, I liked it. good atmosphere, good music, good beer and hot chicks. What more could fellow ask for?

Here is the full schedule for the night:

8-8:40 Turnstyles
8:55-9:35 Earl
9:50-10:30 Colony
10:45-11:25 Tripstar
11:50-12:20 PhonoCaptors
12:35-1:15 FullSystemPurge

One great thing was that since they did not have a schedule of bands the bartender wrote it down on a napkin for me. That was pretty cool — since it took alot of time to do… I wouldn’t have blamed him if he had blown me off.

Tonight is the first dinner at Bruno’s Mom’s House

We’re going to make grilled fish, and a delicious vegetable pie!

This is really going to make our cooking experiences better. Bruno’s momk has been trained formally in Paris. So we’re really going to get to learn some traditional techniques!

We learned to make “Pate Brisee” its about the simplest pie crust that one can make. a ton of butter and a little more flour, plus just a little bit of water, and you’ve got it. Youve got to fold the ingredients, and then knead them with the butt of your palm, mashing forward and down, to create the flaky texture that the dough needs.

Tonight, I’m suffering allergies pretty badly. So bedtime is early.

Spinning tomorrow. Then off to Tulsa on Tuesday.
